Sue Plesa Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. on Apr. 6, 2024.
Myrna Elizabeth "Sue" (Peterson) Plesa of Basehor, Kansas was born July 27, 1945, and left this world on April 4, 2024 at the age of 78. She will spend eternity in heaven because she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. A visitation will be 10 a.m. to Noon, on Saturday, April 13 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, with a Graveside Funeral Service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maywood Community Church Ladies Council.
Sue grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Wyandotte High School in the class of 1963. She went on to further her education at the University of Kansas and achieved her Master's Degree in Education from MidAmerica Nazarene University. After a 13-year courtship Sue and Johnny Plesa were united in marriage and they made their home in Basehor, Kansas. Sue retired after 32 years of teaching in the Kansas City Kansas Public School system, first at Stony Point Elementary School and later at Arrowhead Middle School, where she taught Special Education. Over the years, she made friends with many faculty and students that she had made such an impact on and truly cherished. Her love for reading, teaching, participating in water aerobics, and her family, were the things she shared with so many people. Sue loved her travels to both Ireland and the "cousins cruise" to Alaska. She would often talk of those trips that she held close to her heart.
Her bright and contagious smile, kindness, beauty (both inside and out), and laughter will be missed. She is now whole again, and for this we give thanks.
Sue was preceded by her parents, Russell and Myrna (Harrah) Peterson, brother Russell Peterson, Jr., brother-in-law Marshall Parish, Jr., and a niece Cristen Plesa.
Survivors include her husband Johnny Plesa of the home, brother-in-law Eddie Plesa and wife Renee of Easton, Kansas, sister-in-law Amey Parish and husband David Anderson of Kansas City, Kansas, niece Annette Parish-Newman and husband Michael, Alex Hitchcock and husband Elliott, nephews Johnny Ray Parish and wife Kellie, Nick Plesa and wife Angie, her longtime friend Judy Dunn Castle, as well as several grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family and friends.

As I sit here thinking about the all times we stayed with Johnny and Sue on our yearly visits, every November from 2000-2013 my mind is filled with gratitude, looking back on all the memories, the hospitality they showed, the 5 star meals she always served,we felt like royalty,my Dad (Buster) always looked forward to every year going there to see his (Kansas) family, words can´t explain how much he loved seeing everyone up there !!! , my Brother (Mike) and me (Jerry) will always be enormously grateful for the times shared there,as I look back on all of those trips to see them and the way they treated us ,will forever be etched in my mind as some of the Best Times Ever !!

Dear Johnny,

My condolences on the loss of your lovely wife, Sue. I met Sue at Water Walking class and was immediately drawn to her gracious and positive outlook, in spite of the many health issues she faced. She was always so grateful for everything she had in life, from the very simple things, such as the dawning of a new day and the opportunity to swim and be part of the Water Walking group, to the most important things, such as her Faith and her loving and dedicated husband.

She talked of you much, always recounting what a wonderful life she'd had with you. In time, I saw you both as an inspiration: Her positivity and gratitude while having to be cared for so completely, and the dedication and care you gave her in turn.

Please know that my prayers are with you and your family now, as well as with Sue in her final journey.

Sincerely,

Amy Horvat

I met Sue at water aerobics. Her continued effort to stay mobile was commendable. We will miss her beautiful smile and friendly personality. Rest in peace. Janette

Sue was my 5th grade teacher at Stony Point North. She came to several of our Class of 1981 group events. She was a lovely lady and will be missed.
