Susan L. Nolting, 80, of Carrollton, MO, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Saint Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the United Methodist Church, 212 N. Folger St, Carrollton, MO. Reverend Po'ese Vatikani and Reverend Bill Koch will officiate the service. A visitation will precede the service on Saturday, at the church, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. The family will host a celebration of life reception immediately following the church service at the Carrollton Country Club, 23483 CR 260, Carrollton, MO.
Susan was born on April 26, 1945 in Carrollton, MO, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Bowles) Laitner. In 1963, she graduated from Carrollton High School and in 1967, she graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. On May 24, 1968, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Nolting. Together they were blessed with two children, Scott and Rachel.
Susan was a lifelong educator who began her 31-year career teaching in St. Louis, MO in the Ritenour School district, followed by teaching in Knob Noster, and then back home to Carrollton where she taught at the Carrollton Elementary School. During this time, she continued her own education and in 1974, Susan earned her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Central Missouri. During the 1984-1985 school year, Susan had the honor of being named the Carrollton School District Teacher of the Year. She would continue teaching at the Carrollton Elementary School until her retirement in 1999.
Susan was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of the Missouri Teachers Association, a member of Alpha Delta Cappa, was a cub scout leader, the secretary of the library board, and was the president of the Oak Hill cemetery board. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and in her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, reading, and being outdoors.
Susan is survived by her beloved husband of the home, Bob; two children, Scott Nolting and his wife Melanie of Gladstone, MO and Rachel Nolting Gorman of North Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Krosbie Ficke and her husband Rob of Kansas City, MO, Rorie Gorman and her fiancé Aidan Hughes of Kansas City, MO, Zoey Nolting of Gladstone, MO, Avery Nolting of Gladstone, MO, and Adalie Gorman of Kansas City, MO; and three siblings, Rosalie Wood of Des Moine, IA, Cynthia Cipolla of Kansas City, MO, and Charles Laitner and his wife Betsy of Willington, MO. She also leaves behind five very special and close friends, Sharon Sugg, Doreen Warford, Nancy Kaiser, Sharon Lock, and Paula (Kirsch) Bintavihok.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, Charles and Dorothy Laitner, one brother-in-law, David Wood, and a dear friend, Marlee Grider.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Sugg, Don Warford, Steve Grider, Glen Kaiser, and Don Lock.
