Susie Marie Padgett, born on January 23, 1962, in Bentwaters, England, to Mary Ida Sue McPhail and Warren Lindy Barfield, went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2025.

As a dedicated retired military spouse of 22 years, she was a pillar of strength and a constant source of love and support for her family as they traveled to many different locations, including Hawaii, Georgia, and Virginia. On August 25, 2023, after a long and fulfilling career as a payroll assistant at the Walmart distribution center in Williamsburg, Virginia, she retired with 23 years of dedicated service. She then moved to DeFuniak Springs, outside of her hometown of Niceville, Florida, to retire with her husband, where they built their forever home together.

Her life was a beautiful tapestry of passions. She loved creating with her hands, from intricate quilts, arts and crafts projects, to homemade soaps and candles. Her garden was a vibrant reflection of her nurturing spirit. She found delight in shopping and antiquing, had a deep love for all animals, and enjoyed time spent by the ocean.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, David Lee Padgett; her daughter, Parrish Renee Padgett (Jon Otero); her son, Justin David Padgett (Pattaraporn "Jay"); and her sister, Lora Ann Glass (Glen). Her faithful dogs, Scout and Skyler, will also miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ida Sue Twiford; her stepfather, Wallace "Tweety" Twiford; her father, Warren Lindy Barfield; her brothers, Warren Mitchell "Mike" Barfield and Robert Dennis "Bob" Barfield; and her nephew, Kevin Warren Glass.

The family kindly requests that in place of flowers, donations be made to the Walton County Animal Shelter in her honor.

Susie will be laid to rest in a mausoleum located at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. Those who wish to pay their respects can do so at a later date, in line with respectful cemetery etiquette.

Yesterday

I´m sorry I never met Susie in person, but my companion, Steve Martin, worked with her at the Walmart Distribution Center. I felt like I knew her because Steve spoke of her so often to me. I knew all about the new home she and her husband were building. Steve passed away in September of 2024, and Susie reached out to me. She became a very good friend to me, if only on Facebook. I had hoped we could meet someday, as I too live in Florida. I enjoyed her pictures of her quilts, the delicious looking food she cooked, her family, and precious schnauzer´s. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed. I wish I could have met her. I just know she was a wonderful lady. Fly high, Susie. Rest in peace, thank you for being my friend.
