With great sadness, we mourn the loss of Susan Walker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who entered the presence of the Lord on October 1, 2025.
Susan (Sue) was born on December 12, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan to Ella and Reinhold Matis as the youngest of 5 children–Ruth, Viviann, Richard, and Glenn. She grew up in Grosse Pointe, and after graduating from Bob Jones University with a BS in Typing and Administration, she met her husband Jack while working on her Masters Degree in Education at Eastern Michigan University. They soon married and lived in Dearborn before moving to Troy in 1986, where they raised their two children–Laurie and Mike.
She was a member at First Baptist Church of Troy where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and was an active part of the lives of many. She also taught at Bethany Christian School and then at Grace Christian Learning Center for 19 years, where she met many close friends. Throughout the years, she remained devoted to her family - both immediate and extended - that she so deeply loved.
Sue knew God. Her deep relationship with Him was the source and foundation of her life of devotion to God and all those around her. Her family, her friends, and her coworkers knew her to be kind, loyal, and encouraging.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Jack, her daughter, Laurie Cnossen, her son, Mike Walker, and her son-in-law, Jody Cnossen. She was the proud and devoted grandmother to Laurie and Jody's two daughters, London and Blakely, who brought immense joy to her life.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, North Carolina on Saturday, October 18th, at 10:30am. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her family, friends, and First Baptist Church of Troy for their support.
Sue will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
"I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." (Psalm 27:13)
