Susan Wells

Susan Ames Wells, age 69, of Erie, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania, with her beloved husband, Craig, by her side, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Erie, the daughter of Rosemary Cunningham and Edward Ames, both life-long Erie residents. Susan lived a life marked by creativity, determination, and a deep love for her community.
A graduate of the University of Colorado, in Boulder, Susan began her career as a buyer for Carlisle's Department Stores, which included a memorable month-long buying trip to Asia. Her enterprising spirit led her to found her own catering business, where she combined her flair for hospitality with a passion for food. She later helped create Back Bay Lights, a fine dining restaurant located at 100 State Street.
Susan went on to work as a vice-president, designer and project manager at her husband's business, Erie Contract Interiors, where she played a key role in shaping numerous commercial and residential spaces throughout the region. Her eye for design and dedication to excellence left a lasting mark on the community she loved.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1996 and her father in 1998.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Craig Wells of Erie; her brother, Jeffrey Ames (Linda) of Frederick, MD; and many aunts, an uncle, cousins, a niece, a nephew, a great-niece and a great nephew. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. In accordance with Susan's wishes, there will be no viewing hours or public funeral. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Susan will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her creative vision, and her unwavering commitment to the people and places she held dear. Her legacy lives on in the spaces she designed, the meals she crafted, and the lives she touched.
