With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Sydney Dee Dye, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend and committed community volunteer. Sydney lost her brave battle with pancreatic cancer and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 9, 2023 at the vibrant age of 61. Sydney excelled at living life to the fullest leaving us with a legacy of love and kindness.
An Arizona native, Sydney was born in Mesa on October 10, 1961 to David and Marion Workman. Sydney was a loving sister to Paula Alleman Hannah and Eric Workman. Sydney married the love of her life, Mike Dye, on October 21, 1989, and they were the proud parents of their two children, daughter Madison and son Taylor. Together they created the charming and peaceful desert oasis, Casa de Dye, a home surrounded by citrus and olive groves, vegetable and flower gardens and farm animals.
Sydney was truly a Renaissance woman, incredibly accomplished, achieving a business degree from the University of Arizona, and a juris doctorate from Pepperdine Law School. She also earned degrees in interior and landscape design, as well as culinary arts. Her desire for further education mirrored her lifelong dedication to self-improvement.
Among her many passions, Sydney found joy in gardening, creating exquisite floral arrangements, exploring nature through hiking and bird watching, embarking on exciting travels, preparing delicious meals, entertaining, and, above all, taking care of her family. Sydney had a special talent for making people feel at home and was known for her warm hospitality.
Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family. She was a born leader in all her charitable causes, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and fervent about improving the environment. With her gentle guiding leadership, she served as president of the Arizona Women's Board raising funds for Arizona's kidney patients. She served as Trustee and had just recently completed a very successful term as Board Chair of The Nature Conservancy in Arizona. Sydney's involvement with Arizona Columbine Garden Club emphasized the importance of conservation and protecting the environment.
She is preceded in death by her father David Workman. She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Mike; by her children, Madison Dye and Taylor Dye, as well as her adored two-month-old granddaughter Zoey Dye, whom she was able to hold before she passed; mother Marion Saba Alleman; sister Paula Alleman Hannah (Derik Hannah) and brother Eric Workman (Sherrie Workman), and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sydney will be deeply missed by her many, many friends and family but never forgotten. Her legacy of love, generosity, good humor and unwavering devotion will continue to inspire us all. May she rest in eternal peace.
In celebration of her life, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 10:00 am at Christ Church of the Ascension, 4015 East Lincoln Drive,
Paradise Valley, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to The Nature Conservancy, 1819 East Morten Avenue, Suite 100,
