Sylvia M. Curry, 73, of Watseka passed away on Monday, September 5th, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born June 18th, 1949 in Peoria, Illinois to Kamel and Lucille Rashid. She married Dr. Walter L. Curry on May 31st, 1969 in Peoria, Illinois.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter L. Curry of Watseka; three sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Amy Curry of Watseka, Kelly and Melissa Curry of Plainfield, and Casey Curry of Placerville, California; her beloved grandchildren, Devin and Allie Lindemann, Conner Curry, Claire Curry, Erin Curry, Aidan Curry, Aubrey Curry, and Makala Curry, and one great-grandchild due this month, her namesake, Skye Sylvia Lindemann. Other survivors include her sister, Claudette Rashid of Charleston, West Virginia, a sister-in-law, Barbara Curry of Watseka, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Claude Rashid and Dr. Wesley Rashid, and one sister, Donna Ritterbusch.
Walt and Sylvia moved to Watseka in 1973 where they raised their three sons and ran a podiatry practice for 48 years, serving the communities of Watseka and Rensselaer, Indiana. Sylvia was a member of St. Edmund Catholic Church, where she served as a lector, hospitality minister, catechism teacher, CCW president, and was named CCW Woman of the Year. She was an Iroquois Memorial Hospice volunteer and a tireless supporter of many other community organizations.
Though small in physical stature, Sylvia's love of people, her generous spirit, and dedication to her family were larger than life. She never met a stranger and made instant connections to all who crossed her path. A loving wife and mother, Sylvia derived the greatest joy from being "Siti" to her grandchildren. Whether it was teaching them the art of making Lebanese meat pies or showing them her timeless roller skating and hula hoop skills, nothing made her happier than spending time with them. She spent countless hours watching and filming their activities and sporting events, never wanting to miss a minute of anything they were involved in. Sylvia always considered her children and grandchildren to be her greatest accomplishments.
Visitation will be held from 4pm - 7pm on Friday, September 9th, 2022 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 10th, 2022 at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka, with Fr. Michael Powell officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery in Germantown Hills, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice.

Dear Walt and boys, I am so sorry to hear of Sylvia's passing. She was always so kind to me and I loved babysitting Christopher when I was in high school. May your fond memories warm your heart and help ease your pain. With Deepest Sympathy, Karen (Daschner) Erickson
