Sylvia G. (Koosmann) Heglund was born in Mellen, Wisconsin on April 15, 1942 to her parents, Wilhelm and Frieda (Bonitz) Koosmann.
Her early life and schooling were in Cozy Valley and Mellen, WI. She graduated from Mellen High in 1960. Following graduation she moved to River Forest, Illinois where she worked at Concordia College, upon returning to Mellen she was employed at ASCS in Ashland.
On November 2, 1968, Sylvia was united in marriage to John (Jack) Heglund. Together they had three children. Laureen, Marcy, and Derek. She was a stay-at-home mom until they went to school and worked at Louisiana Pacific when she returned to the workforce. She also served as Treasurer for the Town of Morse for many years. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served in many ways, but most dear to her were the years she was a Sunday School teacher and helper with catechism class memory work.
Sylvia was proceeded in death by her husband, Jack, in 2005 as well as by her parents, brothers Lloyd, Norbert, and Donald, and sisters Shirley and Leila.
She will be loved and missed by those who survived her including her children Laureen (Brett) Scarlett, Marcy Henri, and Derek (Miranda) Heglund, grandchildren Kalyssa (John) Olkonen, Ryker Scarlett and Nadia Scarlett, her great-grandchildren AnjaOlkonen and KatjaOlkonen, brother Ken Koosmann and sisters Ruth Josephson and Joyce (Dave) Kaseno as well as many nieces and nephews. SylDawg was also blessed to have bonus grandchildren Dylan Lawver, Hayden Lawver, Jesse Henri & Mindy Schutte.
Although she seemed very stoic and quiet, she possessed a great sense of humor if you were willing to wait, through a sometimes awkward silence, for the brief grin that followed that told you she was joking. We will remember her sense of humor best whenever we see a sweata-vest or think about calling the California family to confirm the rules for Roll-ems.
A Funeral Service for Sylvia will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mellen, WI with Rev Arleigh vonSeggern officiating.
A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday at the church and continue until the hour of service.
Spring interment will be held at a later date in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Cozy Valley.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home of Ashland and Mellen, WI. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Sylvia, please visit our Tree Store.
