Sylvia Lande
Sylvia Lande, age 85, of Easley, passed away on October 1, 2025.
She was born in 1940, to Libby Shomer in Hackensack, New Jersey. Sylvia earned her master’s degree in social work from Tulane University in Louisiana and became a licensed clinical social worker, a role she deeply enjoyed as it allowed her to help people in meaningful ways. She also served in the Peace Corps, spending time in Costa Rica, an experience that reflected both her adventurous spirit and her dedication to helping others.
In addition to her professional career, Sylvia was also a strong and successful businesswoman. She owned and operated several stores, including a jewelry store at Valley Fair in Hillsdale, New Jersey, as well as a gift shop in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Her entrepreneurial spirit and determination were admired by all who knew her.
Sylvia was a member of the Jewish Federation of Upstate South Carolina. She had a deep love for reading and enjoyed visiting the library to participate in book clubs. She also loved traveling, with London being her favorite destination. Athletic and spirited, Sylvia was a majorette in high school, loved horseback riding, and carried her strong and determined personality throughout her life. She enjoyed watching YouTube videos, and those who knew her admired her independence, energy, and spirituality.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Russell Lande and his wife Angie, David Lande, Steven Lande, and Joanne Smith and her husband Pete; her grandchildren, Abigail Lande, Kandice Bertonazzi, Stephanie Lande, and Dakotah Reid; and her sister, Beverly Adler.
She was predeceased by her parents.
