North Woodbury - Sylvia Mae Meadows, 89, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, surrounded by family at Liberty Nursing Center in
Mansfield, Ohio.
She was born May 23, 1936, to the late Garcie and Nina (Wyatt) Keen in Raven, Virginia. Sylvia married her late husband, Ralph C. Meadows, on September 13, 1952, and moved to Morrow County where she cared diligently for her family as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. Sylvia spent countless hours gardening and preserving food for her family. Family recalls favorite foods and traditions when they think back over Sylvia's life and influence. Her granddaughters share Thanksgiving traditions and "cooking lessons" as memories they will cherish. The family fruit cake recipe will be missed by some but not all. Sylvia was an excellent cook and was always prepared to host family and friends from church in her home.
She was a member of the North Woodbury Free Will Baptist Church and attended faithfully until her health prohibited attendance.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Beulah Proffit of North Woodbury; 4 granddaughters, Angela (Born) Sianjina of Coshocton, Elizabeth (Mike) Nunziante of North Woodbury, Nikki Walsh of Land O' Lakes, FL and Roxy (Josh) Barnett of Hilliard; one brother, MacArthur Keen of Los Angeles, CA; and 6 great grandchildren that she loved dearly: Kyle Sianjina, Baggio Sianjina, MaeKayla Walsh, Briseis Barnett, Bella Barnett and Ethan Barnett.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Margie A. Burns, son-in-law Gene Proffitt, grandson Robert Tiller, grandson-in-law James Walsh as well as her brothers, Robert Keen, Hershel Keen, Werley Keen, Tivis Keen and a sister, Garnie (Cordill) Kempton.
The family expresses sincere gratitude to the Liberty Nursing Center staff for their care and dedication to Sylvia for the last several years but especially the past two weeks. The family also expresses thankfulness to Pathways Hospice for their dedication and care of Sylvia.
The Meadows family will receive guests, Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 2 beginning at 12 pm. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
