Tamika Noonie January

Tamika "Noonie" January entered into eternal rest on March 9, 2025, at the age of 46. Born on September 10, 1978, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Noonie was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose love and generosity touched everyone she met. Noonie was the cherished companion of Kendrick Simmons and the loving daughter of Mrs. Diane January DeJean (Edward Richardson).
A devoted mother, she poured her heart into raising her five beautiful children: Allen and Gary January, Garian Gibson, Kermire Borden, and Shawn Lewis. Her love extended even further to her four precious grandchildren: Hope, Harmony, Allen Jr., and Alex January, whom she adored deeply. She not only guided her own children but also lovingly raised her nieces and nephew, Lunnada (Naverio Rouser), Eric, and Tamika January, as if they were her own. Noonie grew up alongside five brothers and one sister: Allen, Alicia, Terrance (Tieysha January), Rickeith, Emanuel (Dayana January), and Jamal Bass, all of whom she loved dearly.
At an early age, Noonie was baptized and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, providing her with strength, love, and a deep commitment to caring for others. A proud graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School, Noonie dedicated many years of hard work to Schwegmann Supermarket, the Housing Authority, and Galatoire's of New Orleans. However, her true passion was cooking, which led her to open Nunu's Kitchen in 2013, where she shared her love for food with her community. Noonie's meals were more than just food; they were a reflection of her warmth, generosity, and care. Noonie had a heart as big as the city she called home. A devoted aunt, she took pride in loving and caring for her nieces, nephews, and any child who needed a safe and loving place. To many, she was the go-to babysitter, always ready to welcome little ones with open arms. An avid and die-hard New Orleans Saints fan, Noonie's passion for her team was unmatched. Whether cheering from the stands or the comfort of her home, she celebrated every victory with enthusiasm and joy.
Tamika "Noonie" January leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories with her beloved mother Diane, her devoted children, her brothers, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. She also leaves to mourn her aunts and uncles, Herbert and Albert (Patty) January.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Larry DeJean Sr.; her grandparents, Isaac and Theresa January; Emelda Daliet and her devoted friend Peter Adams (Paris). Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Noonie's love, laughter, and kindness will live on in all of us. Her legacy of love, generosity, and resilience will never be forgotten. Rest in love, Noonie. You will forever be missed but never forgotten
