Richard Martin Pipkins, Sr., age 71, entered peacefully into eternal rest at his residence on Saturday, August 9, 2025. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Richard was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School and Southern University at New Orleans. He was employed at Belle Chasse Metropolitan Development Center as a Resident Trainer. Richard was a member of Law Street Baptist Church, prior to joining St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church in Marrero, where he faithfully participated in the Male Chorus, Mass Choir, Couples Ministry, and Pastor’s Support Ministry. Beloved husband of Sharon Jones Pipkins. Devoted father of Talisa (Jason) Charles, Maranda Pipkins, and Ashton Pipkins, Sr. Loving grandfather of JaSyon and Jason Charles, Jr., and Ashton Pipkins, Jr. Son of the late Robert and Louise George Pipkins and Geraldine Guss. Brother of Gerald Guss, Elizabeth G. Rogers, Regina Stewart, and the late Glenda and Eugene Guss, Francis and Louis Pipkins. Son-in-law of Verona S. Tillman; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, Law Street Baptist Church, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Greater St. John Baptist Church, Evening Star Baptist Church, Second Highway Baptist Church, Living Word Church of Houston, TX, and all neighboring churches; alumni of Francis T. Nicholls and Lincoln High Schools; former employees of Metropolitan Development Center and Sears Dept. Stores; members of Westside Missionary Baptist Association Mass Choir and Ministries; faculty and staff of Emmett Gilbert Elementary School; employees of Marriott/Driftwood Hospitality (Houston, TX) and SBB Services LLC are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, 236 Robinson Avenue, Marrero, LA on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Melvin C. Zeno, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m until service time at the church.
