Teddie (Ted) Ross Moore, 88, of
Mt. Vernon, IN formerly of New Harmony, IN passed away on Friday, April 4th, 2025 with his family by his side at Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 8th, 1936 to the late, Jay and Lillian Moore in Harrison, Arkansas.
Ted was a member of the New Harmony High School, Class of 1954 where he played baseball and basketball. While in high school, he got his start working in the funeral home business, working for Schoultz-Werry Funeral Home. After graduating from New Harmony, he attended the Indiana College of Mortuary Science and worked for Shirley Brothers Funeral Home while completing mortuary college.
After completing his schooling, Ted spent several years working at funeral homes across Indiana, including Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, Waltz-Hiday in Anderson, Harry W. Moore in Indianapolis, and Flanner-Buchannan also in Indianapolis. One of his most memorable services was for the King & Queen of the Gypsies.
In 1961, Ted left the funeral home business to take a role with Prudential Insurance Company. He had a wonderful 35 year career with Prudential that in addition to being a fulfilling career, it also included many conferences across the United States which he greatly enjoyed attending with his family. In 1990, he was inducted into the Prudential Hall of Fame, an accolade he was very proud of. He retired in 1996.
Ted served as coroner of Posey County from 1993 until 2003. He was the first Posey County Coroner to be elected from North of Big Creek. He was appointed to the Indiana Coroners Association Board of Directors where he served for 5 years.
In addition to his career and political successes, Ted had a servants heart and served on a variety of committees and boards including; Kiwanis, New Harmony School Board, Charles Ford Memorial Home Board, New Harmony Alumni Organization, Hey Days Festival Director, Maple Hill Cemetery Board, and Tri-State Association of Insurance. For many years, he was a member of New Harmony Christian Church and upon moving to Mt. Vernon, attended services at First Christian Church. Ted was a 50 year member of the New Harmony Arctic Lodge #394.
In his free time, Ted enjoyed playing golf and cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcat Basketball Team. He was also proud to cheer on the New Harmony Rappites as well as the many events his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in. He and Barbara also spent several winters vacationing in Chokoloskee, Florida in their RV with friends.
Ted met his wife, Barbara on a blind date. He proposed to her on Moore Street in Boonville, Indiana and were married November 28, 1959. They recently celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage with their family by their side.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law, Howard and Myrtle Powers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Powers) Moore of
Mt. Vernon, Indiana; son, Chris Moore (Lacey) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Nancy Knight (Brent) of
Mt. Vernon, Indiana; grandchildren, Loni Moore, Ashley Dorsam (Trey), Collin Knight, Lucas Moore, Liam Moore and Addison Oberley; three great-grandchildren, Tristen Kendle, Chloe Prater, and Ellie Marie Dorsam; and his brother, Kae Moore (Jane) of Florida.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, April 11, 2025 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St.,
Mt. Vernon, IN with Pastor Rick Sellers officiating and burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery – Bufkin.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the funeral home.
