Terry Vance, age 65, passed away at the beautiful Hospice House in Bowling Green, Kentucky on October 14, 2025. He was surrounded by love, the sounds of nature, and his children.
A man of great integrity, Terry carved out a life of exemplary service and character. After graduating from Jesse Stuart High School in Louisville, Terry followed Alma, the love of his life, to Eastern Kentucky University. Determined and hard-working, he held multiple jobs to put himself through school, ultimately earning his degree and beginning a distinguished career in law enforcement.
Terry joined the Richmond Police Department in 1982, where he quickly earned recognition for his dedication and leadership. His service led to a promotion to detective and later to a 25-year career as a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), where he received numerous awards and commendations. In his retirement years, he thoroughly enjoyed working as a Court Security Officer, and was thankful to spend his days with colleagues he loved and respected.
Terry often shared stories about the connections he made with people from all walks of life, and never spoke ill of others. He exemplified what we all aim to be: compassionate, nonjudgmental, loyal, and generous beyond measure. He was a friend to all.
He is preceded in death by Alma Vance, his wife and best friend. Survivors are his children, Benjamin Vance (Kelli Disney Vance), Kaleigh Vance (Justin Trammell), grandchildren Bryson Vance and Gracie Disney, and siblings Deborah Vance and Timothy Vance.
Terry will be missed every moment and will continue to be an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family has entrusted J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel with arrangements.
