Terryl Wayne Hebert, Sr.

“Papa Bear”

April 8, 1955 – November 14, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Terryl Wayne Hebert, Sr., a loving father, grandfather, and friend, on November 14, 2024, at the age of 69. Terryl, a lifelong resident of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, was born on April 8, 1955, in Baton Rouge to Robert Edward Hebert Sr. and Bessie Lee Richardson Gardner.

Terryl was a man full of life, known for his mischievous sense of humor, his infectious laughter, and his deep love for those around him. Throughout his life, he worked as a salesman and managed the Dominos National Commissary, always pouring his heart into everything he did. But it was not just his professional endeavors that defined him- it was his personality; he never met a stranger.

His greatest joy, however, came from the time he spent with his family. Terryl had a special love for fishing, and some of the most cherished memories were made with his children at “The Hebert Camp” in Belle River, Louisiana. Those weekends, filled with laughter, storytelling, and of course, a delicious fish fry, were moments he held dear. His love of cooking extended beyond fish—he was famous for his BBQ and could often be found grilling for his family, always ensuring no one left hungry.

Terryl also had a passion for gardening. He spent hours in his yard, surrounded by the beauty of his vibrant flowers and his peaceful koi pond, often with classic rock playing in the background. He took pride in his garden, and it reflected his creativity and observant nature. A proud LSU Tigers fan, he was always ready to cheer on his team with a smile and a loud, “GEAUX TIGERS!”

Above all, Terryl’s greatest role in life was being a dad to his four children and a grandfather to his grandchildren. His support and generosity brought a sense of security to his family. He was affectionately known as “Papa Bear” by his grandchildren, a nickname that perfectly captured his protective and larger-than-life spirit.

Terryl also shared an unbreakable bond with his two beloved dogs, Bear and Lady. They were more than pets to him—they were his companions, his confidants, and a source of unconditional love. Whether they were by his side during quiet moments or joining him on outdoor adventures, Bear and Lady brought him comfort and joy, filling his days with warmth and laughter.

He is survived by his daughters, Tiffany Monique Hebert, Christi Hebert Fontenot (Randy P. Fontenot); sons, Terryl “T.J.” Wayne Hebert, Jr., and Jacob Daniel Hebert; sister, Brenda Kay Case; brother, Robert Edward Hebert, Jr.; grandchildren, Katelynn Marie Fontenot, Jarrett Paul Fontenot, Kylie J. Howe, Trey Johnson, Kate Hebert, Trenton Hebert, Ashlynn H. Peairs, Tyler Daniel Hebert, and Sky Elizabeth Hebert, along with several cherished great-grandchildren.

Terryl was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Robert Edward Hebert, Sr. and Lois G. Hebert; his mother and stepfather, Bessie Lee Richardson Gardner and Captain Sam Gardner; his sister, Diedra Ann Meyer; and his brother, Keneth Charles Hebert.

Our lives will be forever changed with his passing. The loss of our father, our “Papa Bear,” leaves a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. But we take comfort in knowing that he will always be a part of us, and the memories we shared will forever be cherished. A father’s love is irreplaceable, and though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the love he gave us. We miss you more than words can express, Dad. Rest in peace, and know you are forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, and 2:30 p.m. at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A reception will follow immediately after services in Resthaven’s Legacy Room.
