Tessie "Tess" C. Athens, 89, of Clarksville, TN formerly of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 15, 2023 in Clarksville, TN. She was the wife of the late George Athens who passed away July 28, 1995. Tess was born in Bethlehem on June 6, 1933 to the late Christos and Kalliopi (Karastamathis) Carthage. She received her college education from West Chester University and Lehigh University. Tess was a Teacher at Miller Heights Elementary School for the Bethlehem Area School District for 30 years until retiring. In 1973, she was nominated Teacher of the Year in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Bethlehem and was a member of the Senior Citizens Club at church.
Survivors: daughters: Karen M. (Dr. Robert) Stark of Clarksville, TN, Andrea R. Athens of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren: Stacy (Joshua) Lecker, Nicole (Aaron) Prothero, Rebecca (Bo) Tokarski, Robert Louis (Leanne) Stark, III; Great Grandchildren: Matthew Lecker, Sophia Lecker & Rhys Prothero. Predeceased by her siblings: Irene Carthage, Nicholas Carthage.
Service: Funeral Service will be held at 11am, Monday, April 24, 2023 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1607 West Union Boulevard-Bethlehem. The Interment will conclude services at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. Online condolences may be offered at www.connellfuneral.com.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church, 18018.

She was a special Aunt who treated me as one of her own daughters. She was a great teacher, cook, story teller, fun loving, good listener, kind & loved a good laugh. I miss her! May her memory be eternal!!!
