Mrs. Thelma Hoover, age 92, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Thelma was born on August 22, 1933, in Hazel Park, Michigan, to Irvin & Edith (Kelch) Lawrence. She enjoyed drawing, knitting, coloring, and was an avid collector of baby dolls. Thelma loved birthday parties and all family gatherings, as seeing her family happy was the most important thing to her. She was a woman of faith and member of Holiness Missionary Church, Vassar.
She is survived by her children: Paul Scharff Jr., Diane Opperman, Mary (Al) Janni, David Scharff, Deb (Mike) Bott, Lonnie (Connie) Scharff, and Jeff (Laurie) Scharff; siblings, David Haynes, Ron Haynes, Gary Haynes, and Randy Haynes; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Thelma was preceded in death by: Paul Scharff Sr., Michael Scharff, Emma Scharff, Chris Germain, Cody Bott, Neta Scharff, Linda Scharff, Edith Haynes, Irving L. Lawrence, Wesley Lawrence, Irving G. “Sonny” Lawrence, and Willis Ackerman.
Thelma’s family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home – Vassar from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025; services will begin at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Boys Town.
