Mr. Johnnie Everett “John” Severs, age 75, our loving, light-hearted, caring, humorous, and generous husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on August 22, 2025, at Medilodge of Frankenmuth surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Batesville, Arkansas, on August 10, 1950, to parents Alfred & Dora Severs (Whitten). His family moved to Flint when he was young, and he graduated from Birch Run High School with the class of 1968. In school he met Fay Croslin. The high school sweethearts dated, fell-in-love, and were united in marriage on December 23, 1967. Together they shared countless memories, raised their three children, and celebrated over 57 years of marriage. Before retirement, John worked with General Motors as a job setter for 31 years. Afterwards he worked as a security guard for the Flint Journal and then later at Grede Foundry in Vassar.

John had many passions in life including golf, scuba diving, tennis, bowling, race walking in countless races, and two Marathons and a half Marathon, and playing music. Further, he shared his gift of playing the guitar and singing in the Cass River Country Gospel Band with dear friends Doc, Lori, Ray and Cheri. John enjoyed sharing his gift of music around campfires, at numerous area nursing homes for all the patients, and played in local libraries & community centers, and for family and friends. He was a member of the Castle Museum Saginaw Voyaguers where he participated in annual historical re-enactments paddling as part of a 16 man canoe throughout northern Michigan. He was a generous man who gave his time and efforts to numerous community benefits such as: organizing the C.R.O.P. Walk, bowling marathons for Muscular Dystrophy, mission trips to Trinidad & Tobago, Hurricane Katrina relief in New Orleans, LA, involvement with the Old Newsboys of Flint, and proudly was a 13-gallon blood donor. John was a man of faith and member of the Vassar Church of the Nazarene where he participated as a Sunday school teacher. Above all, John was a proud and devoted family man. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Fay Severs; children: Wendy (Wayne) Taylor, Tina (Chad) Jacobs, and Jamie (Tanika) Severs; grandchildren: Marina, Keith (Kristin), Brianna (Tristan), Skylar, Liam, and Lhaylan; bonus-granddaughter, Nola; great-grandchildren: Carson, Levi, Addi, Dayton, and Weston; siblings: Sandra (George) Irish, Tony (Barb) Severs, Paul Severs, and Joe Severs; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and four-legged family.

John was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Severs, and mother, Dora Severs-Cales.

Services celebrating John’s life will be held at the Vassar Church of the Nazarene (3822 W. Saginaw Rd, Vassar, MI 48768) on Thursday, August 28th at 5:00pm; visitation will begin at 12:00 pm and last until the time of service. A Celebration of Life Dinner will be provided after the Service.

Memorial donations may be directed to Vassar Church of the Nazarene, the CROP Hunger Walk Organization, or the Old Newsboys of Flint.
