Ellabell- Thelma Layne Goodman, age 93, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, at Legacy Assisted Living in Savannah Quarters. Mrs. Goodman was born in Jasper, TN to the late Albert A. and Emma Laura Hamilton Layne. She was a homemaker and worked as the supply coordinator for Johns-Manville Roofing Company. Mrs. Goodman was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed fishing with her husband and crafting crosses to be given to her friends and family. She was a member of the Pembroke Garden Club and a long-time member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, where she was in WMU and was the Social Committee chairperson.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Roy D. Goodman, one brother, Albert A. Layne Jr. and two sisters, Stella Wilkes and Helen Asbell.
Survivors include her four daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet Thayer-Coffe and Michael Coffe of Richmond Hill, Linda M. Waters of Midway, Cynthia G. Higgins and Marty Higgins of Brooklet and Victoria Luckey of Hernando, MS; one brother, William Kenneth Layne of Meldrim; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 10-11 A.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2025 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Piet officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
