Thomas Dettmann

Thomas Dettmann, age 77 of Cedar Lake Township, MN passed away at his home on May 15, 2025. Survived by his son, Matthew (Jenny) and grandson, Brayden.
Thomas Alan Dettman was born on January 3, 1948, in Milwaukee, WI to Clem and Loretta (Burkart) Dettman. Thomas grew up enjoying hiking, camping and hunting along with his five siblings.
Thomas graduated from Messmer Catholic High School in Milwaukee and then went on to the University of Wisconsin to study journalism and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, while working as a mechanic for Foreign Car Specialist. It is at the U of W where he met the love of his life Lyn Sussex. That same year Thomas and Lyn were married and made the move to Minnesota. They then bought a plot of land up north in 1974 along with Thomas's brothers and built a log cabin. Thomas then returned to college at the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, he then went on to work at MTS and then at Wenger for 19 years from where he retired in 2013.
Thomas was an avid outdoorsman and had fond memories of traveling the world to various places in a Volkswagen Beetle with his beloved wife Lyn before purchasing a lake house on Cedar Lake, New Prague where they raised their son Matt. After retirement he enjoyed time with family, hunting, fishing, bowling and working on the log cabin up north.
Thomas is lovingly remembered by his son Matt, grandson Brayden, brothers Bill, John (Vicki), brother-in-law Pete, sister-in-law Lori. Nieces, nephews, friends, old friends and co-workers. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Lyn, parents, his in-laws, sister Kathy, brothers Dick and Dan.
A private family burial will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery in St. Patrick where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife. A celebration of Thomas's life will be held at a future date.
