Thomas J. Fogarty, age 86, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Our House Senior Living in Wisconsin Rapids.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Carlton Andersen will officiate. Entombment will be at Forest Hill Mausoleum. Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.
Tom was born November 21, 1937 in Wisconsin Rapids to Thomas and Gertrude (Paulus) Fogarty. He graduated from SS Peter and Paul Grade School and Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids, and worked as a maintenance person for both Assumption High School and St. Vincent de Paul congregation. Tom served in the Wisconsin National Guard, taking part in the deployment to Fort Lewis, Washington as part of the Berlin Crisis. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Tom was married to Salvia Jean Luepke Krokstrom, she preceded him in death. He was united in a committal ceremony to Darlene Larsen on December 22, 2012. She also preceded him in death.
Tom owned and operated Tom's DX and Tom's Enco. He worked for 33 years for Nekoosa Papers (Georgia Pacific) retiring in 1999 as Power Department Load Dispatcher.
Tom was a member of the Wisconsin Rapids Red Arrow club where he served as an officer. A member of the Marshfield American Legion Post 54 where he served as Vice Commander before transferring to Loyal American Legion Post 175 where he served as Adjutant and Post 485 in Rudolph. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer where he served as financial officer, council vice chairman and chairman. He served on the Board of Directors of the South Wood County United Way, and served as President of SAFE (Secure Adequate Future Energy) both locally and for the state group. Tom also served as Recording Secretary for United Paperworkers Local 52 and as Secretary-Treasurer for the Region 10 District Council of United Paperworkers Union. He was also active serving the congregation of St. Luke's Lutheran Church with their Veterans of the Cross men's group.
Tom is survived by his brother, Michael Fogarty and his family; sister, Karen (Mike) Stashek and their family; and sister-in-law, Charise Fogarty and her family. He is preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Salvia and Darlene; brother, Peter Fogarty; sister, Barbara Ann; and half-brother, John Paulus.
