Thomas "Tom" Vincent Kazanchy, Jr., 76, son of Gwendolyn and Thomas V. Kazanchy Sr., was a graduate of Hasbrouck Heights High School. He enlisted & served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. After an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, he worked for Erie Lackawanna Railroad and finalized his career with New Jersey Transit. In his retirement, he enjoyed working part time for Mt. Bethel Auto Supply. All of his careers brought him great joy and lasting friendships.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Grosser) Kazanchy, his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gregg Poole, two granddaughters Izzy and Kayla, his son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Andrea Kazanchy, two grandsons, Jameson and Julian, his sister, Sandy (aka Nutsy- the endearing nickname he gave to her), his brother, John, and numerous other family members and close friends.
In his spare time, Tom would work on his motorcycles and "maintaining the Fleet" and whatever friends or family would bring over to fix. He could never just sit around. He was always busy building or fixing something, even in his last week, helping to install handrails and a ramp. Staying busy was truly his happy place. He pushed through all the pain he was in to keep doing what he loved and being with the people he loved.
A man that loved the simple things in life, Tom especially loved going over to visit family and friends for a meal along with his wife, Mary. Playing with his beloved grandchildren, and just being in the company of the people he loved. Pop-Pop always had warm hugs to give and would always go out of his way to show special interest in what his grandchildren were doing or saying with the warmest smile on his face.
To summarize the life of a man as remarkable as Tom would be impossible, but in the spirit of Tom's humor that he had until his last breath, we will say "that's a wrap." What a life well lived by a man who will be missed every day going forward.
Tom did not wish to have any services held in his honor, but he thoroughly enjoyed various fundraising opportunities he participated in during his time at the Railroad. Below is the link to one in particular that he enjoyed. Donations in his honor would be greatly appreciated.
