Thomas John Konen Sr.

Thomas John Konen, 82, passed away on July 23, 2024, in Oro Valley, Arizona. Born on June 27, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Tom was known for his quiet but jovial personality, often brightening the days of his students at Marist High School with his regular jokes and funny shirts. He taught history and math from 1967 until his retirement in 1991.
Tom was a devoted husband to Ruth Ann Konen for 57 years and a loving father to Thomas Konen Jr. His family, including his daughter-in-law Christie and granddaughters Baylee and Ashley, will dearly miss his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathleen Konen; his grandmother, Margaret Konen; and his uncle, Bob Konen.
An alumnus of Brother Rice High School and Loyola University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree, Tom furthered his education with a Master's degree from Chicago State University. His passion for education was paralleled by his love for classic rock music, including bands like Fleetwood Mac and Chicago, and his enjoyment of McDonald's milkshakes. Tom also cherished his 1975 Monte Carlo, maintaining it as the original owner.
In his leisure, Tom was an avid bowler and a fan of 1950s radio programs. He was a parishioner at Santa Catalina Parish in Oro Valley, AZ, where he shared his faith and community spirit.
Tom's legacy of humor, dedication, and kindness will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
