McAfee, Thomas E.
Gates/Irondequoit: Thursday, September 8, 2022, at age 81. Predeceased by his first wife, Sheila Gleason McAfee; son, Kevin McAfee; baby granddaughter, Colleen Dobbins; parents Hawley and Mary Margaret McAfee; sister, Patricia McAfee; brother-in-law, Peter Schuchman; dear friend, Jack Brownyard, his AA sponsor and surrogate father for 44 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Cheryl (Phillips) McAfee; son, Brian (Jennifer) McAfee; daughter, Erin (David) Dobbins; daughter-in-law Kimberly Eibe; granddaughters, Madison, Maura, Claire and Henley; grandsons, William and Henry; sister, Eileen Schuchman; step-son Eric (Charlene) Phillips, step-daughter, Tammy Goodenbery (Mark Malinowski); step-grandchildren Ashleigh and Timothy Goodenbery, Mitchell and Elena Phillips; many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Tom was a member of St. Pius X Church, where has was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a former member of St. Kateri Parish at Christ the King, a 54 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and a lifetime associate member of the Sisters of St. Francis, Neumann Communities in Syracuse, New York.
Tom graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School in Syracuse and St. John Fisher University in Rochester. He greatly enjoyed several years working in summer stock theater in Fayetteville, NY. Tom spent 14 years in prison (as a drug and alcohol counselor) for the NYS Department of Corrections.
Friends may call Friday, September 16, from 3-7PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Road, Gates. Funeral mass, Saturday, September 17, at 9:00AM, St. Pius X Church, 3010 Chili Avenue. Interment, private.
Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Hope Hall School, 1612 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624 or online to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation (http://participate.lcrf.org/goto/tmcafee).
