Thomas Edward McAnally, affectionately known as "Coach Mac", beloved husband, father, teacher, and friend, passed away August 11, 2025 at the age of 76. He was a proud graduate of Flaget HS, class of 1966. He continued his studies at Bellarmine University and received his Masters from Spalding University, class of 1975 and he was an honorary DeSales HS graduate, class of 2025. Tom was a gifted storyteller, he could make a room come alive with his quick wit, infectious laugh, and the way he often laughed hardest at his own jokes. For 55 years, he devoted himself to teaching, inspiring countless students with not just lessons from books, but lessons for life. He touched generations-both in the classroom and on the field-through his decades of coaching. He was an adventurer at heart, traveling far and wide with his beloved wife, Gaynor, creating memories and sharing experiences that become some of his favorite stories to tell. A true sports fan, he cheered for the Chicago Cubs and the Louisville Cards, but his heart belonged to his favorite team- the DeSales Colts. Known for his warmth, humor, and steadfast friendship, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty. He will be deeply missed by Gaynor, his family, friends, former students, players, and everyone who had the privilege to know him. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Edgar McAnally; mother, Mary Theresa McAnally; brother, Robert McAnally; and brother-in-laws, Don Minor and Ed Latham. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Gaynor Smethurst McAnally, daughter, Kimberly McAnally (Curtis Buckles), son, Eric McAnally, daughter, Sara McAnally Tucker (Matt Ecken); grandchildren, Tyler Tucker (Linda), Alexis McAnally, Ashlynn Tucker, Trevor McAnally, CJ Buckles, Danielle Buckles; sisters, Helen Minor, Barbara Latham, Terry McKiernan (Tim), Cathy Hayes (Billy), Sara Berger, Mary Alice Killian (Tony); mother-in-law, Sylvia Smethurst; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Charlwood (Martin). His celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 18th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6105 So 3rd St. with cremation to follow. Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. Sunday, August 17th at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Dr. Additional parking Sunday at Mt. Carmel Church.
