Donohue Funeral Home - Upper DarbyThomas J. “Tom” O’Malley, age 88, of Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, passed away on August 16, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Francis and Regina O’Malley (nee O’Shea).
Tom was a devoted husband and father, married to the love of his life, Rita, for 67 years. He was lucky to spend 10 years of his retirement in Palm Harbor, Florida before reluctantly returning to Delaware County. He was a pillar of support for his children throughout their lives, imparting valuable life lessons; be it as a coach for his children's sports teams in their younger years, or as a sounding block for house and car repairs later in life. An avid golfer, he spent many mornings on the course, walking when he could until his knees couldn't take it anymore. His enthusiasm for the game instilled in his sons and grandson, a love for the game which they have pursued in their own careers. Tom had a love of many sports, including the Phillies and Eagles which was passed to his children as well. Traveling with Rita in their later years was another joy that filled Tom's life, including a cruise through the Panama Canal, and trips to Ireland or Rome with family. Tom will be dearly missed by family and friends who knew and loved him.
Tom was the beloved husband of Rita K. O’Malley (nee Murphy); loving father of Thomas O’Malley (Teresa), Michael O’Malley, Joseph O’Malley (Alyssa), Kathleen McNally (Gary); adoring grandfather of Alexa, Ian, Grace, Laura, Ryan, and Keeva. Also survived by his brother-in-law, Joe Murphy (Chris) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Tom’s Visitation 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082 and to his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd, Havertown, PA 19083. Interment at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
