Thomas Pluff Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Thomas "Tom" Pluff, of Newtown, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 31st. 2025.

Born and raised in Monroe, Michigan on Lake Erie, Tom grew up with a commitment to family bonds, grounded in the values of hard work and ambition. Tom grew up attending St. Joseph Catholic school in Trenton, MI and served as an altar boy for 13 years. Tom did typical boy things growing up in a small Midwest town. He loved hunting and fishing in Lake Erie, was a paperboy and a pin setter at the bowling alley in Trenton. He enjoyed spending time at his grandparents' farm, boating and found his love for music and performing in a band.

He graduated from Trenton High School in 1965, before graduating from Western Michigan University in 1969, where he met and married the love of his life, his soulmate, Sherrie Lee

As a child and adult, Tom lived his life with enthusiasm, a generous heart, and a genuine love for the things that made him happiest. Corvettes held a special place in his heart, admired for their sleek design, impressive power, and sense of adventure. Music was a great love in his life - Tom could often be found with a guitar in hand, playing for family and friends or enjoying such artists as Billy Joel, Elton John and The Beach Boys. He also enjoyed traveling, embracing new experiences and making memories with those he loved along the way. Tom traveled the world extensively during his career but mostly loved time with his family on a New England vacation, Loon Mountain or the Outer Banks (OBX). A loyal fan of Notre Dame football, Tom rarely missed a game, cheering on the Fighting Irish with his kids and grandkids.

One of his greatest joys was supporting his children and grandchildren, and he could often be found in the stands, proudly attending their sporting events, music events and encouraging them to chase their dreams.

Over the course of his career, Tom started his own electrical wire harness company and migrated his way working into the electrical design and manufacturing sector. He later became a business owner, running an office supply company, before retiring about ten years ago. His strong work ethic and dedication were qualities he carried into all aspects of his life.

Above all, Tom cherished time with his family. Gathered around the table, lost in stories, or simply sitting together and visiting, these were the moments he held closest to his heart. His warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Sherrie Pluff; his children, Claudine Pluff Stephens, Kevin Pluff and wife Caitlin Pluff, Carie Koehler and husband Chris Koehler, and Elesa Malo and husband Jeff Malo; and his siblings, Denise Williamson and husband Kevin Williamson and Michael Pluff and wife Christine Pluff. He was a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren: Taylor and Dylan Albert, Greyson, Nora, Margot, Luke and Finn Pluff, Jack, Josalee, Justin and Juliette Koehler, and Jolie and Bennett Malo.

He is predeceased by his beloved daughter, Chandelle Albert, and his parents, Hayden and Margaret Pluff.

Visitation will be held at Cornell Memorial Home, Danbury, Ct on Thursday, September 4th from 4-7pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 5th at 11am at St, Mary's Church in Bethel, CT. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Regional Hospice https://regionalhospicect.org/
