Thomas “Tom” DeMan Van Leeuwen, 91, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2024, at his home in West Jordan. He was born on March 22, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph L. and Anna Van Leeuwen.
Tom graduated from West High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Central Atlantic States Mission. Tom served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force. Throughout his lifetime he served and held many callings in the church. Later on, he and his wife Sandy, served five missions together. He owned Van Leeuwen Insurance, but his passion for fishing and hunting surpassed all other ambitions. He loved to travel and was able to visit many parts of the world.
Tom is survived by Sandy, his wife of 67 years, and four children; Tamra, Bret (Andrea), Gordon, and Chris (Vilate). He has nine grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his youngest sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers and a son-in-law.
Tom’s laughter and passion for fishing will be deeply missed. His memory will be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tom’s funeral will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024. It will be held at the church building located at 2901 West 9000 South in West Jordan, Utah. The viewing will be from 11:00 am to noon.
