Thomas (Tom) Anthony Urbano
It is with profound sadness that the family of Tom is sharing the news that he passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, exactly one month before his 69th birthday. Tom grew up in Altamont, NY and loved small town life, so it was no surprise that he and his wife, Denise (Dee) chose to buy their forever home in Alplaus, NY. Tom and Dee met over thirty years ago and it was love at first site – even though Tom lost her number three times and she eventually had to call to ask him out. They were married on New Years Eve in 1993. Tom had several nicknames for Dee including "the boss, Dolly, Pumpkin Seeds and Mimi", which is what the grandkids call her.
Tom was the youngest of three children of Guido and Mary (Garvey) Urbano and the only son. He was the deeply adored little brother of Patricia (Pat) Delorme (Chuck) and Margaret (Maggy) Wiard.
In addition to his wife, Dee, Tom leaves behind his "favorite daughter" Noelle Crowley (Franklin), and two wonderful grandchildren, Sophia Grace Slater (aka "favorite granddaughter") and Evan James Slater (aka "favorite grandson"). Sophia and Grandpa loved "dancing with elders" whenever they were together and Evan shares a love of drones and photography with his Grandpa. Tom also leaves behind his "bonus" granddaughters, Abbie Crowley (Danny) and Sophia Rose Crowley and a great granddaughter, Maeve Lopez-Crowley.
Tom is also survived by his nephew Charlie Delorme (Michele), nieces Teri Walker (Brad) and Sandy Wilber (Jason), great nephews Logan and Arthur and great niece Lexi. He also leaves behind nephew Conor Flanagan (Kaitlin), Daniel Lazzaro (Paige) and Aidan Lazzaro. He will also be missed by his extended family, including a number of cousins in the Lange and Urbano families. Tom's Lazzaro brothers and sisters include Thom and Joyce, Paul and Cheryl, Katie and Tom, Fred, Mary and Tom, and Drew. Yes, all of the Lazzaro girls are married to a Tom.
Tom's love of baseball began in his childhood when he played catch with his father after dinner until the lack of sunlight called the activity for the evening. He was a pitcher for the Guilderland High School baseball team. He also loved canoeing and used to race canoes in his free time with his friends Greg and Chuck, including the 70-mile long General Clinton Regatta on the Susquehanna River. His daughter Noelle would accompany her dad to the races and sometimes served as his "pit crew". He and Dee bought their home in Alplaus because the Alplaus Creek is in the backyard and it made it easy for him to canoe and kayak from home.
Tom loved and appreciated historic buildings and has meticulously worked to restore their 120-year-old Craftsman home over the last 30+ years. He was a craftsman at heart, a problem-solver and he taught his daughter how to use power tools and fix things at her home in Virginia. Tom also was an amazing photographer and had an eye that could find beauty in the most mundane things around us.
Tom worked in the flooring business his entire adult life, from owning his own installation business to eventually working as a project manager with Flooring Environment, which was his favorite job. He was eternally grateful for his coworkers Sean and Martha, Joe, Gus, Dave, Mary Ellen, Trey and all of his work family, who he truly considered his friends.
Tom was deeply grateful to his wonderful neighbors in Alplaus, who he and Dee consider friends, including Mario and Muriel, Dave and Ellen, Bob and Sue, Kate and Mike, Charlie and Deb, Gray and Vickie, and too many more to name. He made friends with everyone he knew and is already incredibly missed by Lily, the neighbor's dog and the best golden retriever we have had the pleasure to love.
Tom's family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at Albany Medical Center - from the staff in the ER to the hematology staff, especially Amiee. In addition, the staff in Medical and Progressive ICU are the most caring and kind people and we are forever grateful for the love and care they provided during this difficult situation. A special thanks to ICU nurse Anna Sophia, who ensured that Tom and his family were comfortable and loved during his final moments.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 13th from 1 to 3 pm with a Celebration of Life service to follow at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville.
