Dr. Thomas W. Daniels, known affectionately to friends and family as Tommy, lived a life that was as full and vibrant as his warm smile. Born on December 3, 1945, to Thomas and June Daniels in Port Arthur, Texas. Tommy embraced the world with open arms and an open heart until his peaceful passing on September 22, 2025, in
Conroe, Texas.
Tommy's journey was marked by achievements and love. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Judy, and a loving father to his two sons, Derik and Damon. His commitment to his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his unwavering support and guidance shaped the lives of his children, instilling in them the values of love, kindness, and intelligence that he himself embodied.
Education played a significant role in Tommy's life. After earning a Bachelor's degree from Lamar University, he pursued his passion for healthcare and attained a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas Dental School. For 28 years, Dr. Daniels practiced dentistry in Lumberton, Texas, where he not only cared for the smiles of his community but also earned their respect and admiration through his dedicated service.
Tommy's contributions to Lumberton extended beyond his dental practice. He served as the Mayor of Lumberton, where his visionary leadership and boundless energy brought about meaningful change and progress. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as he organized the Chamber of Commerce, fostering a thriving business environment that benefited the entire community. His astute financial acumen and commitment to community welfare also led him to serve on the Board of Directors of the Lumberton State Bank.
Tommy's love of sports and competition persisted throughout his life. He was honored to play football for coach Underwood at Thomas Jefferson High School and to receive a scholarship to play at Lamar University. Later in life he was a member of Silsbee Country Club and then a member at River Plantation County Club. He served on the board of directors of both and the latter of which he was president of the club.
Throughout his life, Tommy's Christian faith was a beacon of hope and strength, guiding him in his endeavors and imbuing him with the grace to uplift those around him. His interests were as diverse as his talents; whether he was casting a line on a tranquil lake, hitting the links for a round of golf, or feeling the wind in his hair while riding his motorcycle. Tommy embraced life's pleasures with enthusiasm and joy.
The words loving, kind, and intelligent are often used to describe Tommy, but they only scratch the surface of the man he was. He inspired others to reach for their best selves, to find joy in service, and to love with all their hearts. His legacy is one of compassion, leadership, and an indomitable spirit that encouraged everyone to live life to the fullest.
