Tiberio Freitas Reis

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Tiberio Freitas Reis, born on May 4, 1943, in Vila do Topo, So Jorge, Azores. Tiberio passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on January 31, 2025. He was the beloved son of late Antonio Machado Reis and Maria Freitas Reis. He was the fifth of ten siblings.
In 1969, Tiberio married the love of his life, Filomena Fontes Reis, and together they built a loving family. He was a devoted father to his three daughters, Rosemarie, Anna, and Filomena, and a caring grandfather to Isabela, Amariza, and Azria. He found great joy in attending his granddaughters' sports, school, and music events, always supporting them with love and pride.
An honest, hardworking dairy farmer, Tiberio exemplified perseverance, integrity and determination throughout his life. Qualities that were engrained in him since childhood. His love for music was deeply rooted in his heritage; he played in the Filarmonica Topo Club Uniao before immigrating to America and becoming one of the founding members of the Azores Band of Escalon in 1980. It brought him immense joy to see his children and grandchildren continue this musical tradition as members of the Azores Band of Escalon. Coming from generations of conductors and musicians, he cherished the role that music played in his life and family.
Beyond his dedication and love of family, Tiberio was a man of deep faith. He prayed the rosary each night with his wife, drawing strength from his unwavering belief in God. His faith in the Lord provided comfort through lifes trials and blessings alike.
Tiberios legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and love of music will live on through those who knew him. Tiberio is also survived by his loving siblings Guiomar Reis of Turlock, Joe & Marie Reis of Hilmar, Maryjo & John Fontes of Hilmar, and Greg Reis of Turlock as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Tiberio is preceded in death by his parents Antonio & Maria Reis, his siblings Antonio Vitorino, Jose Gregorio, Antonio Maria, Luis Reis, Rui Reis, and niece Melany Reis Abernathy.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 25 at St. Patricks Catholic Church with a Viewing at 9:30 a.m. Rosary at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Catholic Burial Mass at 10:30 a.m Committal will be at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Escalon.
