Timothy S Shafer passed away June 2, 2025, surrounded by his family and his friends after a valiant fight with cancer. He was proceeded in death by his parents Nancy and Ted Shafer, his sister Mary Lang. and Jorge's Mother Minerva Cortes
Tim was born June 4, 1961, in
Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He spent his childhood there attending St. Vincent de Paul elementary and graduating from Mt. Vernon High School. He went to College at Bowling Green State University where he majored in Finance and graduated with honors. Tim began his finance career in Columbus working for Bank One. He excelled in this field and rose quickly in the ranks. He eventually was promoted and moved to Dallas then to Phoenix. In Phoenix, he was part of Bank One's building of the major league baseball stadium. Tim then moved to Chicago, living in Oak Park. It is there Bank One merged and Tim left that bank. He then was hired by US Bank, moving to St. Paul Minnesota. He was in charge of several national offices and stayed at US Bank until he retired. A colleague once said that Tim was one of the top banking executives in his field, in the entire nation.
Tim retired from US Bank at an early age following a successful career and began a partnership with Carriage Trade Realty in Old Town East with Nina. He stayed with Carriage Trade until his death, where he helped build a successful second career.
He was active in helping to rebuild that once prestigious Columbus area, where he resided. He was known for his parties, family gatherings and a Halloween party for the neighborhood.
Tim spent his years giving back to people. He was generous to anyone who needed a hand. He was a wonderful brother who helped his family his entire life.
Tim Shafer is survived by his partner of 26 years Jorge Perales. Very few people could have loved someone as unconditionally as Jorge did for Tim. He was there with Tim until the very end. He is also survived by his brothers Jim (Oregon), Tom (Sheree) Lewis Center, Joe (Mt. Vernon) and Mike (Martinsburg). His nieces Jen (Chris) Kelly, Lindsey (Jason) Peinert, Holly Shafer (Corey), Hilary (Alex) Switz, nephews Jackson Shafer(Courtney) of Oregon, Nathan (Adelfa) Shafer of Washington, Joe Shafer of (Charlotte ) Andrew Shafer, Jake (Emily) Shafer, Dan Lang. Isaac Lang, Austin Lang, Calib Lang (deceased), and Jed Lang. He has 21 great nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.
Tim had many close friends. Tommy, Nina, Jeff, Linda and Dan, Juan Pablo and Karl are just a few of the many.
Included here is a special note regarding Jen Kelly. Jen managed Tim's health care for the past several months, tirelessly communicating with hospital staff to make Tim's life much better
Visitation will take place at Snyder Funeral Home - Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd, in Mount Vernon - from 12:00 -2:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Followed by internment in Mount Cavalry Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Vincent parish office.
