Thomas “Tommy” Raymond Guthrie, age 74, of Boones Mill, VA, passed away on February 11, 2025.
He was born December 9, 1950, and is preceded by his loving parents, Riley and Thelma Guthrie, and brother, Gary Guthrie.
Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years Becky Guthrie, son Noah Guthrie (significant other Melissa Rolfes) of Roanoke, VA, son Joshua Guthrie (significant other Maggie Creech) of Richmond, VA, and daughter Lyndsay Guthrie (significant other Ousmane Toure) of Roanoke, VA, and beloved grandsons Tristan Guthrie (13), Arian Guthrie-Penn (12), Benjamin Guthrie (11), and Jaxston Hayden (6).
A carpenter by trade, Tommy worked in both residential and commercial construction, even designing and building his own home and those of family friends. He had a passion for gardening and took great pride in caring for his land. He loved his family vacations in the Outer Banks. Tommy’s other passions included woodworking, coaching his sons’ Little League teams, cheering on his grandsons at their sporting events, and, in his later years, attending his best friend’s son’s live music performances. An avid racing fan, Tommy made sure to get his picks in at Bowling’s Place for the Daytona 500, even in his final days. One of his proudest moments was buying a go-kart for his grandsons this past Christmas, spending his last holiday joyfully watching them tear up his grass.
Becky and family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the ICU staff at the Salem VA Medical Center, especially Dr. Eugenio and Nurses Cody and Jasmine, for the exceptional care they provided to Tommy in his final weeks. Their patience, compassion, and dedication went above and beyond, bringing comfort to both Tommy and our family during a difficult time. Your kindness will never be forgotten and you all will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Becky would also like to send out heartfelt gratitude to her Ridgeview Church family who have showed her love through prayer, visits and contacts since Tommy went into the hospital, providing a level of support that carried her through.
Tommy’s life will be celebrated with military honors 3:00 PM Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Naff officiating. The family will be receiving loved ones and friends for visitation on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 3 to 5 PM and again Sunday one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
