Anthony Cullen Thomas was born in Shawnee Oklahoma on September 13, 1932, to Nola Francis Thomas and Jesse Cullen Thomas. He passed from this earth to his heavenly reward on November 7, 2025. He grew up on a farm in Shawnee, Oklahoma, 4 miles due north of OBU. He was a member of FFA and excelled in track at Shawnee high school. He was enrolled in Oklahoma A&M in 1950. He used his enrollment in ROTC to help pay for college. It was here that he met the love of his life Julia Mae Redden. He went on to achieve his Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry and on June 26, 1955 he and Julia Mae were married. He then entered his service in the United States Army for two years, then returning to Oklahoma State University to achieve his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. During this time, they had two children, Steven Anthony and Tami Lynn. After graduation, they moved their small family to Midwest City Oklahoma, where Dr. Anthony Thomas began practice with Dr. Gene Evans at Midwest Veterinary Hospital. Tony and Julia Mae immediately became involved in the community. Tony joined the local Rotary club and ran for and won a seat on the local school board, on which he served for 38 years. He served as president of the OSSBA and instructed new members of school boards all over Oklahoma. As a member of the Mid-Del school board, he frequently went to Washington DC in order to help create what is now known as impact aid for school systems that have military bases attached to them. He also assisted in the creation of what was then Rose State College. Tony also served on the Board of Directors for the college of veterinary medicine at Oklahoma State University and served on the board of acceptance. He also Served on the OVMA and was named the AVMA practitioner of the year. Any that knew him knew that he was a proud OSU cowboy and had season tickets for 60 years!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Mae. His parents Nola and Jesse. He is survived by his daughter, Tami Druzba and her husband, Glenn. His son, Steve and his wife Susan. Dr. Thomas was a great man in many respects. It was because of him that I came to Mid-Del Public Schools to be superintendent. Not many people could have convinced me to leave the State Superintendency to go to a local school district, but that is the kind of influence that Dr. Thomas had on so many people. He was a wonderful school board member and a pleasure to work for and with. He did so much for Mid-Del schools as well as public education in general. His tireless efforts working for Impact Aid assisted so many schools nationwide. He had a tremendous influence on the National School Board Association, and was well known for his efforts in education nationwide. He certainly was one of the best school board members that I worked with in my years as a superintendent of schools, and he had a great impact on me in my career. Wyvonna and I thought so much of he and Julie Mae, and enjoyed being with them so much. I can truly say he is one of those individuals who I single out as having a great impact on my life. I will forever be grateful to him for his leadership, and his guidance. We love you Tony!

Dr. Thomas was one of my biggest supporters as a Board Member when I was Principal of Midwest City High School. He cared so much for the students, teachers, administration of the district. His knowledge of helping the district obtain Impact Aid was tremendous! We became good friends over the years. He cared for several of our dogs. He was truly a great man that I loved dearly. RIP good friend!

A quiet man who cared for everyone. He was a man who wanted the best for our schools, our teachers and the children not just in Midwest City but throughout the state of Oklahoma.
He will be missed but not forgotten.
