The journey in this life for Treva Annette Shelton Bailey began on July 31, 1947, in Casscoe, AR. She was the first of four children born to E.V. Punk and Johnny B. Redditt Shelton. The Lord called her home on June 7, 2024, at the age of 76 and what a reunion she is having now.
Being the oldest with three younger brothers, she learned quickly to be as rough and tough as she needed to be while also having a huge loving, caring, and giving heart. She was a second mom to all her kids' friends who sat around her dinner table often. She was the special aunt that would read to all the little ones and leave a HUGE red lipstick kiss on any baby she got close to. She was also the cool aunt that went tubing at 75 and easily kept up with the "youngsters". Her GPS and navigating skills needed some fine tuning when it came to getting her and her brother Bubby home from the Heber Lake trips.
Treva held many jobs over the years but what brought her the most joy was the lifelong friends she made while she and her husband Pete owned and operated Park Avenue Grocery. Treva loved cooking, kids, fishing and the outdoors and she was the happiest doing them as a member of the team at the Cooks Lake Conservation Education Center. Treva also loved flowers and was a member of the Masters Gardner's Club.
Whenever there was a need in the community, she was the first to show up with a pan of cinnamon rolls, a pie or just pitch in to do whatever was needed. Treva loved to sing and shared her gift from the Lord by singing in the choir at church and would open the annual Hunters Chapel Homecoming each year with "Church in the Wildwood". She always considered it a great honor to be asked to sing for friends and family that went home to the Lord before her.
Treva was welcomed to Heaven by her infant son Christopher Bailey, parents, E.V. "Punk" and Johnny Shelton, brothers Harry and wife Bettie and Billy Shelton.
Family was everything to Treva and she leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 58 years Lawerence "Pete" Bailey, son Tim (Lori) of Crocketts Bluff, daughters Teresa Anderson (Wayne) and Rhonda Bailey (finance Mick Johnson) both of Casscoe; one brother James "Bubby" Shelton (Teresa) of Casscoe; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Shelton of Casscoe and Barbara Smith of Clarendon; and the apples of her eyes eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services, officiated by Dillion Lawson, are 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Unity Missionary Baptist Church followed by burial at Hunter Chapel Cemetery in Casscoe by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. before service.
Memorials may be made to Unity Missionary Baptist Church, 823 W. Fourth St., DeWitt, AR 72042; or Hunters Chapel Cemetery, P.O. Box 583, Casscoe, AR 72026.
