"Steven" Tu n Qu c Tr n, age 58, was surrounded by family when he was called home to God on April 12th in Sacramento, CA, after a 3-year journey with metastatic lung cancer.
Born on June 13th, 1966, in Saigon, Vietnam, Tu n is the third son of Huy ình Tr n and L c Th inh. At 15, he escaped by boat with his younger brother to a refugee camp in Thailand. Two years later, in 1983, they arrived in San Jose, CA, and attended Live Oak High School.
Tu n went on to graduate from the University of California Berkeley in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). After completing his degree, he briefly worked as a design engineer for Rockwell International in Newport Beach, CA. Tu n then pursued medicine and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1999. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California Davis Medical Center in 2002. He spent most of his career as an outpatient internist at the Point West facility of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento, CA, until his diagnosis in 2021. He spent his last years with family, striving to enjoy life to the fullest.
Tu n was a devout Roman Catholic and actively participated in the Vietnamese Martyrs Church community of Sacramento, CA. He was a dedicated member of the Cursillo movement, serving as Director from 2021 to 2023. Tu n was continually involved with the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Monastery, helping to establish a convent in the United States. At the spry age of 50, he pilgrimaged to Israel and Krakow, Poland for World Youth Day in 2016. He later undertook another pilgrimage around the religious sites of Italy and France in 2018. His faith was an essential part of his life.
In his free time, Tu n enjoyed art, including architecture, landscaping, photography, drawing, and calligraphy. He was an avid fan of movies and dramas, spending countless late nights lost in different worlds. Always the handyman, he learned new skills to apply in renovating and maintaining our home. He briefly practiced Choy Li Fut Kung Fu and was fond of martial arts. He loved to travel with family, exploring the man-made monuments of the Roman Colosseum to the natural wonders of H Long Bay.
Tu n joins his mother, father, and eldest brother H i Tr n in heaven. He is survived by his wife Loan Kim Nguy n and their children Thi n Qu c Tr n and Theresa Thiên-Thu Tr n.
While we mourn the loss of our dear husband, father, and cherished family member, it's important to recognize the fact that he was more than just a relative to us. Tu n was a true friend, a mentor, and a confidant to many, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond his family.
He strove to live his very best and encouraged those around him to do the same. His loss will resonate with us all, but we rejoice in his eternal journey.
We invite everyone to share pictures and memories so that we may laugh and smile as we celebrate the amazing and loving life of "Steven" Tu n Qu c Tr n.

DR.TRAN was my Dr. At Kaiser for 15 years..at least. I'm sooo sad to hear this. He was so funny even my daughter said..we talk and laugh like it was facbook. He was soo gracious and kind to me. I'm glad I finally found out where he has been these last few years..with his family and loving life.

Dr. Tran was an amazing, caring doctor. He was my Mother's doctor and my Mother passed at 92. I remember taking my mother to her appointments and talking to Dr. Tran about her health. The last appointment I took her to, Dr. Tran pulled me off to the side and said, "your mother's heart is tired, please let her know how much you love her, as she is getting to the end of her life." Dr. Tran was one of a kind.
