In Loving Memory of Valera Larene Ennis 07/07/1936 – 08/20/2025
Valera Larene "Cookie" Ennis (née Cook), 89, passed away on August 20, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on July 7, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, Cookie was known for her strong, courageous spirit and profound faith.
Throughout her life, Cookie was a passionate advocate for animals, dedicating much of her time to feeding strays and providing care to any animal crossing her path. Our family Labrador had passion for collecting animals as well, although not as successful as Cookies. She was a published author, and as an avid reader, she carried her love for literature throughout her life.
Cookie is survived by her family, including her three children, Robert Cox and his wife Gloria, Cathy Johnson and her husband David, and Tammy McGlynn and her husband Mark. Grandchildren Chantal Cox, Michelle Sanders, Brandi Noe, Crystyn Lasley, Lori Merrill, Davee Lemesurier, Lucas Martinez, Savanah Martinez, Jordan Martinez, and Lawrence Martinez. Cookie also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is greeted in death by her husband, Richard Ennis, grandson Benjamin Martinez, great grandson Levi Martinez, and her brother Robert Cook.
Services will be held on September 15th, 2:30 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas, shelter # 3. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to your local animal shelter in memory of Cookie's lifelong commitment to animal welfare
