Valeria Maxcy Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 17, 2024.
MURPHY - Valeria Sue Maxcy (Arend), 74, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024. She was born on May 6, 1950, to Philip L. Arend and Charlotte (Greenfield) Arend in Evansville, Indiana. She saw much of the United States and had the opportunity to live in Japan and Italy, given her affiliation with the Air Force through her father and husband.
After many adventures, Val, Laurie, Charlotte and Phil, moved from Japan to Alexandria, Louisiana, and then to Rome, New York. The next big move was to Fort Worth, Texas, where Val graduated from North Side High School. Soon after, Val married and they welcomed their first child, Jennifer Sue, in 1971. A few more moves landed Val and the family in Alabama, then Georgia. The next move was to Wichita, Kansas, and in 1975 they welcomed Billy Randall (Randy).
Val was a beloved grandmother (aka Big Mama) and enjoyed being present in the lives of Cloe, Abby, Julian, and Madison (Maddie). She loved to celebrate the holidays with her family and was especially known for her fabulous, and at times, scary Halloween costumes. Val was also known for her baking skills and was always sure to show up to family parties with her famous bread pudding and caramel sauce. She was a passionate family historian, keeping up with cousins far and wide on Facebook. She was also passionate about music and enjoyed artists such as Elvis, The Beetles and Prince. K-Pop was her most recent rage and she would sit for hours watching their videos.
Her kind and positive spirit was known by all and rarely did she complain; even after being diagnosed with polycythemia vera, being the recipient of a new liver in 2006, thyroid surgery and a single bypass, and countless hospitalizations the last two years. Her fight for life was known by all that loved her as she had many miraculous recoveries. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Val was preceded in death by both parents, Philip and Charlotte.
Val is survived by her loving children, Jennifer (Russell) of Murphy, Texas, and Randy (Anna) of Burleson, Texas; her grandchildren, Cloe, Abby, Julian, Maddie, Ivy and Andrew; her sister, Laurie Smith (Steve); niece, Mallory (Nicholas); nephew, Andrew (Dlaine); and several extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Olivet Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas. Guests are encouraged to arrive as early as 1:30 p.m. for a brief visitation.
The family would like to encourage those attending to wear purple, her favorite color.
Reception details will be provided during the service.
Memorial: In lieu of flowers, Val's family would like you to consider a donation to the Liver Foundation in Val's memory. https://liverfoundation.org/
