Valrie Severino McHugh, age 88, of Fredericksburg, VA, formerly of Chesapeake, VA, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Born on April 28, 1936, in Marion, South Carolina, she lived a life marked by independence, dedication, and unwavering love for her family.
Valrie was the cherished daughter of Mary Babb and Nick Severino. She was a devoted mother to Ted Creekmore (Donna), Yvonne Joyner, Annette Roberts (Tom), and Frances Pierce (Chris). Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she took immense pride in her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Underwood and Berlene Byrum. Valrie was predeceased by her sister, Gloria Chesley, her brother, Gene Severino, her grandson, Christopher Joyner, her husband, Bernie McHugh, and ex-husband, Theodore Creekmore.
For over four decades, Valrie excelled as a realtor, earning numerous awards and accolades throughout her distinguished career. Her professionalism and dedication left a lasting impact on her clients and colleagues alike.
A woman of remarkable strength and independence, Valrie navigated life's challenges with grace and resilience. After the passing of both her husbands, she continued to manage her home and provide a loving and supportive environment for her children.
Valrie was a woman of strong faith, active in her local church in Chesapeake. She also dedicated many years to volunteering at local hospitals and with the Shriners Hospital Club, demonstrating her deep commitment to serving her community.
In her leisure time, Valrie found joy in the music and films of Elvis Presley, a lifelong passion that brought her much happiness.
A service to celebrate Valrie's life will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great bridge Chapel, 524 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake, VA. Viewing services will be held Sunday April 6th from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed immediately by chapel and burial services at 2:00 PM. A small reception will be held adjacent to the chapel at the service site for those wishing to offer condolences and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Valrie's memory to the Shriners Hospital Club or the Dementia Society of America.
To honor Valrie's vibrant spirit, the family encourages everyone to wear colorful attire to the services, celebrating the joy she brought to their lives.
