Van Rodney Lake, age 71, of Williamson, Georgia, passed away on April 12, 2025. He was born on November 2, 1953, in Phenix City, Alabama, the son of the late PFC Howard Lake and Leona Estelle Strong Lake.
Van was a gentle soul, a kind loving husband, a man of deep patience, and someone who found joy in helping others. He loved the outdoors, and whether he was boating, skiing, scuba diving, or simply enjoying the peace of nature, Van was at home. After 30 years of dedicated service, Van retired from UPS, where his quiet strength and work ethic earned the respect of all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen McGarity Lake; his brother, Dwight Lake (Teresa); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Though Van didn't have children of his own, he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were, taking immense joy in their lives and showering them with care, wisdom, and endless laughter. He wore many hats in life, but 'Funcle' was by far one of his favorites - a nickname given by his family – he was the fun uncle who never missed a chance to laugh, play, or offer advice.
A time of celebrating Van's life will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, when the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.cannonclevelandfunerals.com. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, 770-914-1414.
