Verda J. Friesen, 97, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Pine Village. She was born on September 1, 1927 in rural Moundridge, to Herman O. and Mary (Unruh) Eck. She married in 1947.
Verda is survived by her three children, Cynthia (Dennis) Unruh of Fresno, CA, Kenneth (Carol) Friesen of Hillsboro, OR, and Gregory Friesen of La Jolla, CA; two grandchildren, Brandon (Katherine) of Sudbury,MA and Taryn (Coleman); four great-grandchildren; and brother, Jerry (Marlene) Eck of Moundridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three siblings.
Verda was a gifted sculptor and painter. She attained a Master of Fine Arts in Art from San Diego State University. Her numerous and noteworthy art and metal sculpture works reflected life experiences with people, places and travel. Travels included circumnavigating the globe, living in India in U.P. with the Tibetans and Pahari's in the Himalayas, the Masai, Kikuyu and Xhosa tribes in Africa. She loved the expansive view from her hilltop home in California and photographed the sunrise each morning for a year, visually and graphically noting the shift each day upon the horizon. Her artistic talents extended to constructing large youth production sets and being an avid concert choir member.
She still did cartwheels into later decades!
Verda left a legacy of kindness and unique relationships formed with each family member, which is treasured and continues to hold unforgettable memories of a life well lived.
" That ye might have life and have it more abundantly." John 10:10
Cremation is planned with private family services to be held later.
