Vernon Lackey Jr.

A memorial service for Vernon Lackey Jr. age 91 of Tyler, Texas, is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home Chapel in Lindale, Texas with Chris Lackey officiating.

Vernon passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at his home in Tyler. He was born on September 18, 1934, in Tyler to the late Vernon and Winnie Lackey. Vernon was a longtime resident of both Tyler and Lindale where he was a member of the Lindale First Baptist Church, serving in their prison ministry as well as teaching Sunday School. He worked throughout his life as a salesman in the Food Industry. Later in life he drove a charter bus for many years where he enjoyed seeing the country and interacting with his passengers and others. In his spare time Vernon enjoyed the outdoors, working in his yard, playing golf, and bird hunting. But the thing he loved most was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion of 25 years, Leora Nantz; and sister, Margie Fitzgerald.

Vernon is survived by his children, Teri Taylor of Whitehouse, and Blake Lackey and wife, Sally of Lake Cherokee; grandchildren, Jeffrey Taylor, Jason Taylor, Chris Lackey, Chad Lackey, and Paige Simons; numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and other loving family members and friends.
