Veronica Lee (Cooksey) Sexton, 67 of Antlers died Sunday morning, March 3, 2024 in Antlers.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Bob and Mae Weaver Memorial Chapel at Kiowa Cemetery officiated by Mr. Tony Runyon and Mrs. Connie Cooksey. Burial will follow.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Tony Runyon, John Cooksey, Connie Cooksey, Lisa Isaac, Lisa Fletcher and Roger Cooksey.
Veronica was born to Elmer Lee and Jessie (Blood) Cooksey on April 10, 1956 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She graduated from Kiowa High School in 1974. Veronica obtained an Associate's degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from East Central University in Ada.
She worked various jobs in her life, including being a deputy sheriff in Pottawattamie County, DHS in Tulsa County and as a youth counselor for Pittsburg County before retiring.
Veronica was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking. She was like a mother to her younger siblings.
She resided in McAlester most of her life, she would move, but would always return to her hometown.
Veronica was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the First Born.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Lee Cooksey; mother, Jessie Faye (Blood) Cooksey- Taylor; sisters, Sharon Kay Taylor, Celia Fay Runyon; brother, Lloyd Calvin Cooksey; granddaughters, Angel Harp and Cecilia Harp.
Veronica leaves behind her son, Stephen Matthew Harp of Rutherford, Tennessee; granddaughter: Anastasia Howard of Ingram, Texas; brothers, John Cooksey and wife, Connie of Finley, Roger Cooksey and wife, Laura of McAlester, Tony Runyon and wife, Kami of McAlester; sister, Lisa (Runyon) Fletcher and husband, James of McAlester; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
Veronica will be missed, but not forgotten.
