Vetrice Hudson (West) of Greenwood, IN, age 103, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 24, 1921, in Smith County, Tennessee, Vetrice lived a long and full life marked by quiet strength, deep family devotion, and enduring faith in God.
Vetrice was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, beloved husband, John Hudson; her four children- Hugh Hudson, Dorris Wayne Hudson, Betty Breeden (Bud), and Debra Hudson; and her grandchildren Barton J. Hudson, John Christopher Hudson, Kim Atkins, and Brad Breeden. Though her journey was touched by loss, Vetrice's heart remained open, and her love extended across five generations of family.
She is survived by her grandchildren Michele Hudson Erwin, Marti (John) Dunlap, Brent Breeden, her dear friend Ruth Renner, and a large and loving legacy of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and one cherished great-great-great-grandson. Each life she touched carries forward her memory-her warmth, resilience, and the simple joys she shared through stories, meals, and moments spent together.
Vetrice's long life spanned a century of change, but her values never wavered. She believed in hard work, family, and kindness. Her home was always a place of welcome, laughter, and comfort. Those who knew her will remember her steady presence, her generous spirit, and her unshakable love for her family.
Services to honor Vetrice's life will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church, 1640 Fry Road in Greenwood, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Though she has departed this world, Vetrice Hudson leaves behind a powerful legacy-one that lives on in the hearts and lives of the generations who follow her.
