Vicky Hartwig, 70, of What Cheer, died Friday, July 4, 2025. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be in the Garrett Cemetery near Delta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to What Cheer Fire & Rescue or Delta Fire & Rescue.
Vicky Louise Hartwig was born on July 24, 1954, at home in What Cheer, Iowa, the daughter of James Harold Koch and Donna (Bradley) Koch. She attended Tri-County High School and soon after entered the workforce, dedicating her life to hard work and family.
Throughout her career, Vicky held various jobs, including positions at Kingsberry Homes, Casey's, and Pella Products. She also proudly owned and operated her own restaurant-an example of her entrepreneurial spirit and determination. For the last 23 years of her working life, she was employed at Vermeer Manufacturing, where she remained until retirement.
After retiring, Vicky devoted her time to what mattered most-her family. She especially cherished time spent caring for her great-grandchildren. Affectionately known as Grandma Vicky, Grandma Sugar, or simply GG, she was a loving presence in the lives of all who knew her.
Vicky found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing Bingo with her sisters at the Keokuk County Fairgrounds and rarely missed a figure 8 race, cheering on her grandchildren and son-in-law from the stands.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Donna Koch; her husband, Dennis Hartwig; her siblings Sandy Clark, Ricky Koch, Kenneth Koch, and Harold Jr. Koch; and her sister-in-law, Kim Koch.
Vicky's legacy continues through her children: William Hartwig of What Cheer, Michelle (Deal) Keasling of Delta, Renae Van De Krol of Lynnville, and her adopted son Jason (Cherilynn) Waite of Oskaloosa. She is also lovingly remembered by Patti (Gary) Hadsell of Tracy, Iowa.
She will be forever missed by her grandchildren: Stephanishia Smith-Hartwig of Sedalia, Missouri; Ashton Hartwig of New Sharon; Jordan Hartwig of Delta; Victoria (Austin) Klaiber of Clio, Iowa; Patricia (Justin) Hulbert of Delta; Garrett VerSteegh of Delta; Lilyann Hartwig of New Sharon; and Jacob and Lucy Van De Krol of Lynnville. She also embraced Owen Wheeler as one of her own grandchildren.
Vicky was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, who adored her deeply, and she adored them in return. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Vicky's warmth, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and deep-rooted family values.
