Victor Leon Butwich, 79, of Longs, South Carolina, passed away after a
courageous battle with cancer on November 8th, with his loving wife, Angela,
by his side.
Victor was born on November 6, 1946, in Houlton Maine, the son of Victor
Franklin Butwich and Arlene Elizabeth Butwich Herrick. Victor was 5 years old
when his family moved to East Hartford, CT. He was schooled in East Hartford
and graduated from East Hartford High School.
Victor married Angela Butwich Zitani on April 10 th, 1971, at Burnside United
Methodist Chapel in East Hartford. Angela and Victor were married for 55 years
and together had four children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-
grandchildren. Victor was an avid lover of animals and cherished his dogs
Simba, Scooter, Buttons and Bows, Pepper and Lady Jessica.
Victor devoted 30 years to General Motors, including their Tarrytown, NY and
Framingham, MA plants, and ended his career at their Spring Hill, Tennessee
branch, retiring in 2010. Victor was a team leader and was recognized by
General Motors for missing the least number of days in a work year. Victor's
advice to his children and grandchildren was "never miss a day of work";
however, he always made sure to take off Halloween to take his children trick-
or-treating.
Remaining to cherish Victor's memory are his spouse, Angela Butwich, his
children, Joseph Lewis and wife Melanie Lewis, Christina Finn and fiancé Mark
Flammia, and Craig Butwich; his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to
him as Papa, April Evert, Robert Lewis, Jessica Finn, Amber Waldron, Joseph
Lewis Jr., Jacob Finn, Galvin Freeman and Carson Freeman; 9 great-
grandchildren; his brother Wayne Butwich; his Brother-in-law, James Zitani and
wife Kathy; his sister-in-law, Jean Boynton; and numerous loving cousins,
nieces and nephews.
Preceding Victor in death are his son, Robert Zitani, his parents Victor and
Arlene Butwich, his sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Butwich; and brother-in-law
Al Boynton; and many beloved cousins.
Victor loved movies, and especially The Wizard of Oz, a movie that was near to
his heart. Although his family will miss him immensely, they know that they will
see him again, Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
