Viola Katherine Christian, a beacon of love, kindness and generosity, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on April 2, 1939, in the Bronx, New York, to Elwood and Viola Catherine Jefferson, she grew up in a home filled with warmth and kindness, qualities she carried throughout her life.
Viola's journey through life was marked by the deep connections she forged with those around her. She was the beloved wife of John Charles Christian, with whom she shared a lifetime of adventures and cherished moments. Their love story began in the halls of William H. Taft High School in 1954, and it was a bond that only grew stronger with each passing year.
A devoted mother, Viola leaves behind a legacy of love in her children, Darryn K. Christian, Gary R. Christian, Mark A. Christian, and Jeannine Rajsky, as well as her stepdaughter, Judith Twigt. Her nurturing spirit lives on in her grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Danielle, Adriana, Brandie, Jason Haas, and Jaxon, who will forever hold dear the memories of their grandmother's loving embrace and thoughtful gestures.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood Jefferson and Viola Catherine Jefferson, and her brothers, Elwood Jefferson Jr. and Thomas Jefferson. She is survived by her spouse, John, her brother, Bishop J.K. Jefferson, her children, and her grandchildren, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Throughout her life, Viola was known for her loving nature, her generosity, and her thoughtfulness. She had a passion for crocheting, solving puzzles, and most importantly, spending time with her family. Viola and John's love for travel took them to many fabulous cities and countries, including Paris, Munich, and Alaska. They cherished their experiences seeing the country by train during their vacations, creating a tapestry of memories that spanned continents and decades.
Viola's presence was a gift to all who knew her. She was a woman who gave selflessly, loved unconditionally, and lived her life with a grace that touched the hearts of many. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her, and her memory will be a guiding light for her family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Viola Katherine Christian, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a journey marked by love, laughter, and the joy of shared experiences. She was a remarkable woman whose legacy will endure through the lives of those she loved. May she rest in peace, knowing that her life was a beautiful reflection of the values she held dear.
