Viola May (Deitemyer) McCarty, 99 of Elmore, OH was given life by her creator and was born February 24, 1926 in Woodville, OH, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Kasischke) Deitemyer. On March 28, 1926 she received the gift of the Holy Spirit in the water of baptism at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elmore, OH. Viola was the first person baptized in the new church building. She publicly professed her faith at her confirmation on June 16, 1940.
On June 12, 1947 Viola was united in holy matrimony to Jim McCarty. Together they were blessed by God with the gift of four children: Anne (John) Gangler, Michael (Christy) McCarty, Beth (Mark) Sell-Fosgate, and Patrick (Deborah) McCarty. She was also blessed to have 9 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Florence Wagner; brothers: Norman, Arthur, John, and Edgar Deitemyer; son-in-law Dr. Steven Sell; granddaughter Laura Sell; step-grandson Kyle Palmer and her special friend John Mohrman.
Viola worked at Sears for 12 years. She volunteered at Lutheran Social Services purchasing and delivering groceries to those who were shut-in. Viola Served her Lord as a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. Viola also taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School.
God blessed Viola with a holy death on Monday, May 12, 2025 at her home under Hospice Care. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. The Lord giveth and the Lord Taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ our Lord, for sister Viola.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel, 19550 W. State Route 51, Elmore, OH 43416. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00am - 11:00am, Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 412 Fremont Street, Elmore, OH 43416, followed by a funeral service in the church at 11:00 am with burial to follow in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Preschool, 412 Fremont Street, Elmore, OH 43416.
