Virginia "Christine" Medley, age 94, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was born on April 24, 1931, in Dyer County, Tennessee, to William and Ollie (Powers) Dykes. Christine married Walter Medley on August 14, 1954, in Corinth Mississippi.
After their marriage, they made their home in Northwest Indiana. Christine's main focus was her family and her church. She supported her children in their activities and was a big fan of the Chesterton High School Marching Band in the 1980's. She went with her church on several missions trips - to Ireland and to the American Indiana Christian School in Arizona.
Christine's "special talent" was cleaning. She could take a dull, dreary room and make it sparkle. This she did for the teachers and students at Chesterton High School all the years she worked as custodian. She retired in 2002 to the home she and Walter built 40 years earlier. She went on trips back to Tennessee to visit family and enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her home. She loved to quilt blankets, mow her lawn, tend her flowers and play Phase 10 with her girlfriends. Above all, Christine was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends and her church family.
Christine is survived by her two children, Michael Edward (Terry) Medley of Porter, Indiana, and Pamela Ann (Brian) Ponder of LaPorte, Indiana; half-sister, Rose Gale of Michigan; three grandchildren, Brandon Michael (Falon) Medley, Alecia Kathleen (James) Wasniewske, and Tiffany Nicole (Joshua Payne) Robertson; seven great-grandchildren, Jagger Medley, Cecelia Medley, Wesley Wasniewske, Evelina Wasniewske, Amelia Payne, Major Payne, and Vanellope Payne; sister-in-law, Sue Dykes; step-grandchildren, Christian J. (Brandy) Peters, Curtis J. (Eric) Peters, Rane (Gabby) Ponder, Skye Ponder; step-great-grandchildren, Christian M. Peters, Kayla Bowie, Jaylen Bowie, Cole Ponder, Emmett Ponder, and Araya Ponder; special friend, Mary Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; infant daughter, Vicki Kathleen; and brother, Darl Damon Dykes.
A funeral service to celebrate Christine's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304, with Pastor Tim Wanless officiating. Burial will follow in Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made in Christine's name to the Alzheimer's Association, or Restoration Church, 552 W. Morthland Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com.
