Virginia Helen Porter passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 94. Born on January 25, 1931, in Forest Hills, New York, to James Michael Canavan and Helen Sullivan Canavan, Virginia's life was a testament to her enduring spirit of love and dedication to her family.

Virginia graduated with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and devoted many years to enlightening young minds as a substitute teacher. Her passion for learning and her commitment to education were evident in her gentle guidance and the positive impact she made on her students.

In 1956, Virginia wed Robert J. Porter, in New York. Their union was blessed with six children, who became the center of Virginia's world. She was a full-time world's best mom, a title she wore with pride and joy. Although she faced the heartache of losing her sons, Robert J. Porter Jr. and James Michael Porter, her sister, Claire Hoggard, brother-in-law, William D. Hoggard III, and son-in-law, Jeffrey Haack, Virginia's strength and love never wavered.

Virginia was the epitome of a nurturing mother to her surviving children: Kelly Anne Porter and spouse Scott McElwain, Mary Claire Haack, Thomas F. Porter and spouse Michele McKnight, and John D. Porter and spouse Angela Renee. Her grandchildren, Marissa Brooke, James Michael, Michael Canavan, and Alison Lee Porter, Joseph Weinman, and great-grandson, Gabe Weinman, brought immense joy to her life. She was best friend to all her children and grandchildren.

A woman of faith, Virginia was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Rockwall, where she found solace and community. Her commitment extended beyond her family as she served as a Boy Scout Leader, guiding and inspiring the youth with her wisdom and kindness.

Virginia's interests were as vibrant and diverse as her personality. An excellent swimmer, she cherished beach time with her family, creating lasting memories by the shore. Her talents in the kitchen were unmatched; as a gourmet cook, she delighted in preparing sumptuous meals for her loved ones. Virginia's intellectual curiosity was nurtured through her love for crossword puzzles, while her penchant for Blackjack and painting reflected her zest for life and creativity. Always looking for more ways too spend quality time with her family, she was an avid card and board game player, as well as sports fan, sharing in the fun and excitement with her cherished family.

Virginia's legacy is one of love, family, and service. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a woman who lived her life with grace, generosity, and a heart full of love.
